The Banishment

Russia 2007 | 157 minutes | Russian | Hebrew subtitles

After taking a bullet out of the arm of his wounded brother Mark, a criminal character, Alex and his wife depart on a family vacation. After their small children crawl into bed, Eva admits to her husband that she is pregnant from another man. As in his previous film, The Return, here too the narrative has a strong allegorical meaning, religious symbolism, intense atmosphere, and intelligent camera work that helps maintain the pace of the exposure of information. The result is a work that stimulates the emotions and the mind.
