Colombia, the 19th century. Florentino Ariza is madly in love with Fermina Daza. Although the feeling is mutual, and the father of the young woman opposes the union, and instead, Fermina marries the wealthy Dr. Juvenal Urbino. Only fifty-one years later, when Dr. Urbino dies, will Florentino finally be able live and love freely. Based on Gabriel García Márquez’s masterpiece, and directed by Mike Newell, this ambitious cinematic interpretation is faithful to the original and captures the fine line between romance and misery.
