Annual event celebrating the Ethiopian community in Israel
All immigrants face questions of identity regarding the encounter between the new culture and the immigrants’ unique cultural world. This experience raises questions about the place of the immigrant’s original culture and the absorbing culture. The films screened as part of A Community Through the Lens express the personal experience of filmmakers from the community, and relate to cultural characteristics have left their impression on the experience of the general public.
Gesher Multicultural Film Fund in collaboration with the Association of Ethiopian Jews, which works to promote egalitarian policies in Israeli society, Avi Chai Foundation and the Jerusalem Jewish Film Festival present for the tenth year a unique event focused on and dedicated to the Ethiopian community in Israel.
The event will feature a screening of Fig Tree, the acclaimed film by Aäläm-Wärqe Davidian, produced by Naoimi Levari and Saar Yogev.
Conversation with the filmmakers following the screening. As part of the event will be launched the project "Equal" to promote a cinematic work dealing with the Ethiopian community in Israel in cooperation with the Baron de Hirsch Foundation.
