When the doctor informs Trudi that her husband Rudi's days are numbered, she decides to spare him the bad news, and convinces him to go on a trip to visit their children and grandchildren. On their way to Tokyo, where their son Karl lives, Trudi suddenly dies. Rudi decides to continue the journey East on his own.
