When conceptual artist Gunter Demnig first conceived the idea of laying Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) for victims of Nazi persecution, he never imagined his project would grow to become the world’s largest decentralized memorial. The Netherlands, second only to Poland in the percentage of Jews murdered during WW2, is where the demand for Stolpersteine is greater than anywhere else in the world. HERE LIVED retraces the Stolpersteine project through the stories of families of Dutch victims. At the present time, over 100,000 Stolpersteine have been placed in 30 countries across Europe.
