Persepolis is the poignant coming-of-age story of a precocious and outspoken Iranian girl. We first meet 9-year-old Marjane during the Islamic Revolution, when the fundamentalists first take power, and follow her as she cleverly outsmarts the “social guardians,” while living with the terror of government persecution and the Iran-Iraq War. Her parents fear for her safety, send her to Vienna, and the story continues until 1990. A moving and intelligent animated film.
