The Executioner

Spain 1963 | 90 minutes | Spanish | Hebrew, English subtitles

Three men, two undertakers and an executioner, meet at a prison. When one of the undertakers discovers the executioner has a single daughter, a stupendous comedy begins. Cinematographer Tonino Delli Colli's uses mise-en-scène to add a dash of irony to the scenes, and the performances are delivered with a modicum of self-awareness. The Executioner is a film that constantly moves forward, and as funny as it is, it also manages to conduct a moral and social dialogue with the viewers. Although this is not a new restoration - this is still a beautiful digital copy of a great classic that has not been shown here for many decades that should not be missed.
