Leonard wears the finest designer suits, drives a shiny Jaguar, has a wad of cash in his pocket, but lives in a miserable hotel and can't remember anything - not even people he saw and events that occurred a few minutes ago. All he knows is that he must avenge the rape and murder of his beloved wife. Since he has no short-term memory, Leonard must function on the basis of minor details within his grasp: notes to himself, tattoos, Polaroid photos with the faces and places, names and details, sometimes confusing, that enable him to remember who, what, why…. In his second film, Christopher Nolan created a brilliant thriller: a non-linear script that lithely moves between different times, a brazen use of the camera, tremendous performances - means that manage to navigate the viewer's psychology. But primarily - as in all of Nolan's films - the narrative journey also passes through philosophical territories that cinema does not often wander into.
