Soviet Ukraine, the 1930s. Peter, a 10-year-old American boy, and Ivan, a blind minstrel, flee the terrors of the government. The two develop a special bond over the treacherous journey. Among the tribulations, Ivan tries to maintain the boy's innocence in the face of the difficulties and challenges, when perhaps the blind man manages to see reality more clearly than his sighted friend.
