Forever a Woman

Japan 1955 | 110 minutes | Japanese | Hebrew subtitles

Fumiko is the perfect wife and mother. Her world falls apart when she returns home from her poetry class only to discover her husband is having an affair. From here begins a melodrama that extricates all life of Fumiko. There is no way to articulate this melodrama - the pace is seemingly calm, but the plot's twists and turns keep coming, catching our protagonist and us by surprise. Forever a Woman brings to the screen some of the most daring moments imaginable, brave even by today's standards. Similar to the poetry written by Fumiko, Tanaka also designs the film delicately and effortlessly, but these do not come at the expense of complexity or burning emotions. Forever a Woman is a truly astounding work
