Cinematheque Guest: Phil Grabsky

Award-winning producer and director Phil Grabsky is the creator of the art series Exhibition on Screen, which has become a global sensation. He has also directed some of the most beloved films in the series. The Jerusalem Cinematheque is honored to host Phil Grabsky for a special preview of the next season, set to start in 2020, and a special showing of Matisse, followed by a conversation and Q&A session with the audience.

This stunning and fresh biography of the great Pierre-Auguste Renoir examines how and why, though his impressionist work was admired, Renoir changed course. Based on the remarkable collection at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, the film explores this new direction and why it provokes such extreme reactions.

Audiences are invited to enjoy an intimate, behind-the-scenes documentary about this once-in-a-lifetime blockbuster exhibition with expert contributions from those that knew Matisse as well as curators, historians, and the museums' directors. Plus there are breathtaking specially commissioned performances by Royal Ballet principal dancer Zenaida Yanowsky and jazz musician Courtney Pine.
