As WWII wrecks through Italy, we witness six encounters from Sicily in the south to the Po Valley in the north. These are meetings between victor and vanquished, though Rosselini blurs the lines between the two. One of the landmark films of Italian Neorealism, directed by Roberto Rossellini. The film was shot in a free style, on real locations, and using non-professional actors; all of which naturally gives it an exceptionally realistic feel.
