David Lynch’s film follows Nikki Grace, a Hollywood actress starring in a new film by Kingsley Stewart. In the plot of the film within the film, based on an unfinished Polish film, her character, Susan Blue, is meant to have an affair with a character named Billy Side. During shooting, Nikki starts an affair with the actor who plays Billy, Devon Berk, despite Nikki’s jealous husband and the fact that the original film wasn’t completed because the two lead actors were murdered. From here, the film takes us into the dark recesses of the characters’ minds—and, of course, David Lynch’s as well—leading to an encounter with talking rabbits and a journey to Poland in the 1930s…
