After 30 years on the air from the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, Minnesota, A Prairie Home Companion is set to be canceled as real estate developers prepare to tear down the theater for a parking lot. For the final broadcast, all the regular guests gather while host GK struggles to conceal his emotions about the show’s end. Robert Altman’s final film, based on a script by Garrison Keillor, the real-life host of the show, defies genre conventions, blending sympathy with distance, empathy with irony, in classic Altman style.
