Pauline and Paulette

Belgium 2001 | 87 minutes | Flemish, French | Hebrew subtitles

Pauline, a 66-year-old "little girl", can't read, write or even tie her own shoes. She lives in a small Belgian village with her sister Martha, who has taken care of her since their parents died. Also in the picture is their sister Paulette, the village diva who spends her time rehearsing for the local opera, while in the background (in Brussels) is their youngest sister Cecile, busy with her latest French lover. When Martha suddenly passes away, Paulette and Cecile will inherit everything, but only on the condition that they take care of Pauline and don't send her to a home... A very sweet drama whose humanity rests on the director's clear respect for all of his characters.
