Prisoner of the Mountains

Russia, Kazakhstan 1996 | 98 minutes | Russian | Hebrew, English subtitles

An old Chechnian man captures two Russian soldiers and takes them to his mountain village. He wants to trade them for his son who is held prisoner by the Russian army. If the exchange fails, he will have to kill the Russians. Prisoner of the Mountains combines tragedy and is based on Tolstoy's line of thinking: "Life is short, the world is small. Why are people still fighting each other after thousands of years"? Bodrov focuses on the human story rather than on the political situation and creates one of the most effective anti-war movies ever made.
