Lancelot of the Lake

After failing to find the Holy Grail, the Knights of the Round Table return to King Arthur's court. Lancelot attributes his failure to his secret desire for the queen, but she refuses to sever ties with him. Meanwhile, a jealous knight exposes their affair to the king. This is Bresson's second historical film, and despite the constraints of reconstructing the Middle Ages, he remains true to his ascetic, precise style, creating a timeless allegory that transcends the film’s historical setting.
