When her insurance company declines to pay for her husband’s life-saving treatment, Sonia takes matters into her own hands. After being met with endless red tape and bureaucracy, she reaches the end of her tether and becomes resolved to do whatever it takes to get what’s hers.
Director Rodrigo Plá, along with wife, screenwriter Laura Santullo (The Delay, The Zone), combine suspense and social realism into a gripping, touching film, set in the course of one day, which serves as a piercing indictment of the unfeeling, capitalist healthcare industry. Theatre actress, Jana Raluy in the lead, delivers an impressive, convincing performance. Monster received the top award at the recent Istanbul Film Festival.
