Clara, a widow and retired music critic, was born to a wealthy family in Recife, Brazil. She is the last resident of Aquarius, a seafront condo built in the 1940s, after all other apartments were sold to a development company. Clara, who has pledged to remain in her apartment as long as she lives, finds herself in a mysterious, frightening and nerve-wracking confrontation with the company.
Four years after his prize-winning debut feature Neighboring Sounds, Kleber Mendonça Filho was enthusiastically received at Cannes with Aquarius. The Recife-based director demonstrates his outstanding cinematic skills, casting Brazil's most famous actress, the phenomenal Sonia Braga, in the lead role.
