A lively comic adaptation of Jane Austen's 1871 epistolary novel Lady Susan, Love & Friendship is set in 1790 and is centered on Lady Susan Vernon, a beautiful widow who knows what she wants and knows how to get it. Lady Susan relocates to her relatives' house in order to find a match for her daughter, and perhaps one for herself, and incidentally awakens a sleepy town. Young Austen's sly wit is the perfect working material for director Whit Stillman, who casts Kate Beckinsale and Chloë Sevigny, stars of his seminal film The Last Days of Disco. With excellent contributions by Xavier Samuel and Stephen Fry, Love & Friendship is a fun period piece that combines bold satire and practical romance.
