Anton serves as a doctor in a refugee camp in Sudan. At home, in Denmark, his son is being bullied at school. That is until Christian arrives at the school and convinces him that the only way to deal with violence is retaliation. This problematic ethic approach collides with Anton's pacifistic views. As circumstances change, both father and son will have to reexamine their positions. Talented director Susan Bier showcases the moral ambivalence in which the film's protagonist operates in without passing judgment. The result is a precise and thought provoking drama well worthy of the 2010 Oscar it won for best foreign film.
