Hirayama works as a janitor in Tokyo, responsible for the cleanliness of the public restrooms in the city. What would seem to everyone - including his young partner - as a simple job that requires no effort, is performed by our not-so-young hero with professionalism and dedication. Wim Wenders' cinema has always flirted with Japanese cinema. "Almost four decades after retracing the footsteps of Ozu in the documentary Tokyo-Ga, Wenders returns to the Japanese capital to make his best narrative feature in years " (Hollywood Reporter). Wenders follows Hirayama's severe day-to-day routine and the tiny changes that appear when his niece enters his life and changes his whole world. Wenders is an old-school master, but still a magician and he knows how, with the help of soundtrack, camera, script, and subtle acting, to charge his work with emotion that will stay with you long after the screening.
