Monthly Screenings
Pairings | Festival Closing Event

Pairings is a screening comprised of scenes selected by various artists and presented as a multi-participant performance. Unlike traditional cinema screening, Pairings asked the participants to choose scenes from the history of cinema and present them to the viewers with an additional element, not unlike pairing food and wine. Much like the culinary metaphor, each element is meant to enhance different and hidden aspects in the cinematic scene that might have alluded the viewers without this encounter between mediums. Pairings does not only exposes viewers to scenes from the history of cinema, but also offers a glimpse into the creative thought processes of different artists. Pairings wishes to pull the curtain from these artistic processes and share them with the public, creating a one-off, live performance and an experience that exists somewhere between the cinema, the studio, and the artist’s psyche.

The band members play world music under the direction of Eyal Talmudi – a sax, clarinet, bagpipes, and piano player, composer and musical producer. Together, they take the listeners on a journey that begins with Bulgarian tunes, continues with Greek and Hasidic harmonies, and culminates with Italian rhythms.
