In June 1943, Germany infamously declared Berlin “judenfrei” - “free of Jews.” But there were still 7,000 Jews living in Berlin, hiding in attics, basements, and warehouses, sometimes protected by courageous Berliners while desperately trying to avoid deportation. Only 1,700 survived the war. The Invisibles tells the stories of four of these survivors, blending oral history with dramatic reenactments to recount their unique stories. The film’s emotionally moving yet unusual cinematic approach brings suspense to the years the survivors spent underground.
