Exhibition: Yearning for a Place I’ve Never Been

A Visual Tribute from the Archival Treasures to the Western Negev Settlements

A Photography Exhibition and Dialogue with the Residents of the Gaza Border Communities

The Israel Film Archive at the Jerusalem Cinematheque preserves rare archival material, including films that document the settlements in the Western Negev ever since the establishment of 11 residential communities in 1946. Historic moments, such as laying the cornerstone for Kibbutz Nir Oz, the sheep shearing ceremony on Moshav Yakhini, the rope factory workers in Ofakim and more.

During Jewish Film Week, the Cinematheque will showcase the landscapes of settlements in the beloved region of Israel: the people, the fields, the sunsets – moments of compassion alongside wonders of creation. The exhibition will display prints and films from the treasures of the archives, rare photographs from the archives of Kibbutz Be’eri and the photography of Shahar Vahab, a farmer from Kibbutz Nir Oz.

On Thursday (December 14, 19:00) The Israel Film Archive will host a special event with residents of the Gaza border communities who will present to the audience archival materials collected over the years in the settlements of the Western Negev and tell the story of the pioneers in this special region of Israel.
