A film director gathers his favorite actresses—those he worked with and those he loved—observes them, and draws inspiration to write a script set in 1970s Rome, where sisters Alberta and Gabriella run a prestigious fashion house. When asked to design costumes for a period film, tensions rise. Turkish-Italian director Ferzan Ozpetek draws on memories from his early days in Italian cinema to craft a lush, heartfelt period piece. Featuring an ensemble of actresses from his past films, a direct dramatic style rooted in dreams, disappointments, and desires, and a fashion house bursting with design and color, this is perhaps Ozpetek’s most mature and accomplished work to date.
