Grizzly Man

USA 2005 | 103 minutes | English | Hebrew subtitles

Every summer, for 13 years, Timothy Treadwell would venture into the grizzly bear sanctuary in Alaska to live with and protect the bears. He would document his daily life with honesty, idealism, and naivety garnering adoration worldwide. Treadwell became a celebrity, but his life was cut short when he was attacked by the bears. Director Werner Herzog revisits Treadwell's footage, and talks with his acquaintances. With his unsentimental style, Herzog presents a classic Herzognean hero: obsessive, sensitive, and on the edge of madness. Grizzly Man is one of the best documentaries ever made – it is not a syrupy nature film but rather offers a direct look at animals and humans as they are. This is a masterpiece that should not be missed.
