The film takes viewers back to the beginning of the 20th century and the friendship between the Russian writer and his friend, sculptor Ilya Ginzburg. A friendship that transcended class differences, and national and religious boundaries. The film describes the relationship between the two artists, using documents, testimonies, and archival footage, set against the backdrop of wars, revolutions, and other turbulent events of the turn of the century.
