The Reader

France 1988 | 98 minutes | French | Hebrew subtitles

The film follows the experiences of a young woman who is persuaded to offer her services as a reader to incapacitated people. An exploration of voyeurism and game-playing of a perverse and fantastic nature. Michel Deville creates a film that is a feast for the eyes - beginning with the spectacular directing style through the means of production at his disposal, the artistic design, the beautiful color palate of Dominique Le Rigoleur, the sophisticated script, and ending with the comical and provocative performance of Miou Miou and the supporting actors by her side.
