The Old Guard

Italy 1934 | 85 minutes | Italian | Hebrew subtitles

The film takes place after WWI and focuses on conflicts between socialists and fascists who want to prevent a strike in a hospital. Director Alessandro Blasetti was a proud member of the Fascist Party and this work is a prominent propaganda film made in the mid-1930s. He presents fascism as a rejection of communism and the bourgeoisie, and as the only way to revive the Italian nation. The end of the film is a parade on Rome, from which Mussolini came to power.
