Lucien is a teenager in a French village in the 1960s. His father, Jacques, is the local schoolteacher whose quirky behavior amuses his classmates but embarrasses Lucien. Andre, a friend of the father's, notices Lucien's shame and decides to tell him the reason for his father's clown-like behavior.
