For the Suleyman's, the escape from Syria was like the Big Bang, and what followed wasn’t peaceful either. Scattered to the four winds, it seems the brothers found no safety, no sense of belonging, and no escape from the echoes of war. Skillfully filmed in black and white, the film follows Andriy, an exceptional Red Cross volunteer in Ukraine, his new home. Divided into visually arresting short chapters, his story progresses through touching reunions with his family in Germany and Kurdistan, and his decision to accompany his father’s body back to Syria. Footage of military parades (complete with marching bands), endless lines of people waiting for humanitarian aid, and tender images of civilians clinging to their fragile day-to-day routines—all clear that this family’s story is one of many.
