In Israel, the Forbidden Journey, a four-part documentary, director Jean-Pierre Lledo embarks on a quest to understand why he rejected the Jewish world, Judaism, and Israel for 50 years. This is a cinematic essay that goes back-and-forth between the director's life story and Jewish history. Chapter One: Hanukkah.
Aware of the existence of the Arab "Nakba," the director discovers another "Nakba," that of the Jews of Arab countries who were all deported after 1948. In Ashdod, he visits his uncle's grave with his daughter seeking forgiveness.
