A Trip to Brazil

Germany 2001 | 112 minutes | Portuguese, English | Hebrew subtitles

Two Parts: 1. The Story of the Música Popular Brasileira; 2. New Sounds in Popular Brazilian Music

Brazil is music: a cultural melting-pot with European, African and Indian roots from which an impressive variety of rhythms, melodies and regional styles are brought to life. This music has been inspiring the national and international music-scene right up till today. The two-part documentary A Trip to Brazil carries us forward on a musical journey through the history of the Música Popular Brasileira. A discussion with the big predecessors of Samba, Bossa and Tropicalismo enables the viewers to look back on the popular music history of Brazil. Old masters such as João Gilberto, Tom Antonio Carlos Jobim, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso and Carmen Miranda grant us a glimpse into their motivations, opinions and visions.
