A trio of young women come to Moscow during the late 1950s to seek work and love. Vladimir Menshov’s melodrama was a hit in the Soviet Union and the world in the early 1980s. It beautifully captures the tensions between the social structure of the USSR and the personal aspirations of its heroines.
