Bresson’s skillful portrait of a thief who steals because he feels he is above the law – in essence a portrait of thievery as a purely existential act. Pickpocket is considered one of the high points of cinema history, and has become a source of inspiration for younger filmmakers, among them Paul Schrader, writer of Taxi Driver and Raging Bull.
