The Karski Report
Dir.: Claude Lanzmann | 49 minutes

The Karski Report

France 2010 | 49 minutes | English, French | Hebrew subtitles

In 1978, Claude Lanzmann interviewed Jan Karski, a Polish courier who was among the first to warn the West about the Nazis’ plan to systematically exterminate the Jews. The interview was conducted during the filming of Shoah, and Karski’s testimony became one of the film’s most powerful moments. As part of his debate with Yannick Haenel following the publication of Haenel’s novel Jan Karski, Lanzmann used 49 minutes from the full testimony to create a chilling historical document—a work that stands on its own regardless of the mediatized controversy.
