Rhapsody in Blue

USA 1945 | 151 minutes | English | Hebrew subtitles

Rhapsody in Blue is a moving tribute to George Gershwin, one of America’s greatest musical talents. Robert Alda stars as the gifted composer whose remarkable career began when his natural talent for piano outshone that of his older brother, Ira. Beginning as a Tin Pan Alley “song plugger,” Gershwin achieved his first major hit with Swanee,”performed in the film by the inimitable Al Jolson. Despite his many achievements with popular songs and stage hits, Gershwin aspired to create a uniquely American sound—one that fused European classical traditions with the vibrancy of popular music within the Broadway tradition. Both inspiring and musically uplifting, Rhapsody in Blue honors George Gershwin’s enduring legacy through two hours of timeless and unforgettable compositions.
