In his personal style, Marker reflects on the collapse of the global left in the decade between the student uprising and the overthrow of Allende’s government. The first part, "Fragile Hands," depicts the rise of the new left protest against the backdrop of the Vietnam War and how student movements nearly toppled de Gaulle’s regime. The second part, "Severed Hands," portrays the backlash - from the crushing of the Prague Spring by Soviet tanks to the American-led coup against Allende’s government in Chile. Marker creates a breathtaking montage of archival footage, uniquely narrated by him.
