Esposito is a small-time thief constantly trying to stay one step ahead of the law. Officer Bottoni is the policeman tasked with catching him—his job depends on it. After a series of chases, an unexpected friendship forms between the two, revealing that, despite being on opposite sides of the law, they share similar struggles and fates. Cops and Robbers emerged from the neorealist movement, but also marks a shift from its stark seriousness to the playful irony and human warmth of Italian-style social comedy. A true classic of Italian cinema, it features one of the finest performances of legendary comedian Totò.
