How I Killed My Father

France 2001 | 99 minutes | French | Hebrew subtitles

Maurice returns to France after an extended stay in Africa, just in time to attend a tribute to his son Jean-Luc now an esteemed doctor. The father's smiling presence weighs on Jean-Luc, though he tries to overcome his anger at his father's sudden departure years earlier. His younger brother was too young to even know his father, while his wife even takes a liking to the old man. Anne Fontaine constructs her film less around plot twists and more on the subtle tension between her characters.
