High & Low: John Galliano

UK, USA, France 2023 | 116 minutes | English, French | Hebrew, English subtitles

Having found success early on as a fashion design student in London, John Galliano quickly became the big-mouthed wunderkind of Paris haute couture. On the runways of Givenchy and Dior, he showcased a bold vision with his spectacular theatrical productions, each one much more than the sum of its dresses, hairstyles, and accessories. His rise to stardom, accompanied by the growing adulation of celebrities like Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, and Anna Wintour, also paved the road for his self-destruction, which culminated in the anti-Semitic tirade that shattered his reputation. In this tell-all confession, Galliano recounts in detail the chain of events that led to his fall from grace, leaving the viewers to ponder his sincerity and the possibility of forgiveness. As director Kevin Macdonald put it: “How can we understand something someone said or did if he himself doesn’t understand what made him do it?”
