The Artillery Sergeant Kalen

Poland 1961 | 103 minutes | Polish | Hebrew subtitles

Poland immediately after World War II. Kalen would like to return to a normal life, but he is sent to the Beskids Mountains, where a battle rages between the Polish (communist) army, an anti-communist underground, and Ukrainian nationalists. Among these forces, our hero seeks to preserve his freedom and his life This is a war drama based on Jan Gerhard's autobiography, and 60-plus years on, it expresses the ideological view of those days. But one cannot remain indifferent to the dramatic plot, the mountain views and especially to the appearance of Wieslaw Golas in the lead role.
