Where Life Begins

A large ultra-Orthodox family from Aix-Le-Bains, France, spends their summers in southern Italy where they harvest etrogim (ritual lemons). Here Elio, the farm owner, meets Esther, the rabbi’s daughter. While Esther is expected to marry a man she hasn’t yet met, her budding friendship with Elio encourages her to explore life on her own terms. Through this relationship, Esther will understand the importance of freedom, while Elio will find peace. A gentle yet thought-provoking exploration of tradition, family, and self-realization, set on the backdrop of the beautiful Italian countryside.
