The transition from home birth to hospital birth is slowly taking place in traditional societies. Among Us Women follows Huluager, an Ethiopian woman expecting her fourth child, as medical workers visit her village trying to introduce medical supervision for pregnant women and explain the advantages of giving birth in a medical facility. In this river of change, Hulu finds herself caught between the threshold of modernity and deep-rooted traditions. Her struggles and encounters with the nurses and the doctor throughout the film, reveal a wider and deeper set of problems and interests concerning women's lives in rural Ethiopia.
