The Wandering Princess

Set against Japan’s wartime occupation of Manchuria in the 1930s and 1940s, a Japanese noblewoman enters an arranged marriage with the younger brother of Manchuria’s figurehead Qing Dynasty emperor. Tanaka Kinuyo presents a historical epic saga told from a critical female perspective. Similar to her previous works, she focuses on the protagonist who tries to navigate her life between public commitments and her personal and family aspirations.
