Indignation

USA 2016 | 110 minutes | English | Hebrew subtitles

US, 1951, the Korean War. Marcus Messner, an idealist young man of a middle-class, Jewish, New Jersey family, wins a scholarship and starts school at a small, conservative Ohio college. His academic success is instant, however, he soon finds himself up against the college’s powers-that-be, as well as antisemitism, oppression and sexual repression.

This refined, touching adaptation of Philip Roth's novel marks writer and producer James Schamus’ directorial debut, who has left his mark on some of the finest, most elegant indie films of recent decades (The Ice Storm, Brokeback Mountain, Happiness). The film, starring Logan Lerman, has won critical acclaim at both Sundance and Berlinale festivals.
