The Red Turtle
Dir.: Michael Dudok de Wit | 80 minutes

The Red Turtle

France, Belgium 2016 | 80 minutes | No Dialogue

This beautiful, dialogue-free animated film depicts the life of a man stranded on a tropic desert island inhabited by turtles, scorpions and birds. The title refers to Albert Lamorisse's classic The Red Balloon, similarly devoid of dialogue. Like The Red Balloon, The Red Turtle offers viewers of all ages an uplifting and thought-provoking aesthetic experience.

The debut feature by Michael Dudok de Wit (whose short film Father and Daughter won the Academy Award) is a co-production between Wild Bunch and Ghibli Studio (founded by animation legend Hayao Miyazaki). The film won the Un Certain Regard Special Jury Prize at Cannes and was chosen to open the prestigious Annecy Animated Film Festival.
