Larks on the String

Taking place in the 1950s, the plot focuses on a group of “enemies of the people” at a Stalinist “re-education” camp. They include a saxophonist, a barber, a literature professor and a young chef. In his characteristic understatement, Menzel focuses on the prisoners’ attempts to pick up women from the women’s camp next door.
