The story opens on Christmas Eve of 1967. The Sebkovi and Krausovi families celebrate together in a shared villa. Sebek is an officer and communist, while Kraus is a former partisan and Czech patriot. Sebek’s son is in love with Kraus’s daughter, who in turn loves another boy whose parents emigrated to the USA. The parents are caught up in the past, while the youth dream of Mick Jagger. The illusion of a warm world will shatter in August 1968. Deftly combining comic and tragic, the film explores ideology and the generation gap.
